Kellett Motorsport plan treble Fiesta Attack

For 2019 Kellett Motorsport will make an assault on three different Ford Fiesta Championships with 3 different drivers. The Kells based team have been working hard behind the scenes to put together a package that will see them compete in both Ireland and the UK. An exciting challenge with a packed calendar is instore for this family run team which will see all hands on deck for the season ahead.

18 year old William Kellett will once again compete in the Keelan Construction Fiesta Zetec Championship for the coming season. After finishing runner up in 2018 the 3 times Motorsport Ireland Young driver of the year Nominee will be gunning for glory and hopes to take the top step in this closely fought Championship. The University of Limerick student will be driving an upgraded car this season and hopes to get off to a flying start on the 13th and 14th of April in Mondello Park. Testing has gone to plan and he will go into the season as one of the hot favourites for the title.

Dunshaughlin Motor dealer Barry-John McHenry has been part of the Kellett Motorsport family since 2011 and he will once again compete in the Mondello Park Fiesta ST Championship. This will be the Raheny man’s third season in the ST Championship and after showing great pace and finishing joint 4th last season he hopes to step it up and be challenging towards the front. His job won’t be easy however as joining the grid this season will be Erik Holstein, Kevin Doran, Ronan McHale, Alex Denning as well as all of last season’s front runners so the grid will be more competitive than ever. Barry-John is excited for the season ahead as Leo Nulty promotions will be running the class and a new scrutineering team has been put in place making sure that all cars are maintained as they should be.

The 3rd driver will be Alastair Kellett. The Kellett Motorsport boss and multiple champion will be competing in the MRF Fiesta UK Championship in a newly purchased Ford Fiesta Zetec S. Alastair won this Championship in 2016 and returns to the Championship after a new structure was announced for the 2019 season, The ST and Zetec S cars will run in the same class for the first time with the Zetec S cars getting an engine upgrade to match the bigger 2 Litre ST’s on the straights. This will see Alastair travel across the Irish Sea 8 times over the course of the season. This will once again see Alastair going against the top UK teams with the aim of coming out on top as he did In 2016.

The trio will also team up together for a 24 Hour Kart race in White River kart track in May and they will all compete at the Formula Ford Festival in October in Brands Hatch.

The team have some fantastic sponsors on board and without their support this could not be possible.

For 2018 Barry-John McHenry returned to the Ford Fiesta ST championship with his Kellett Motorsport Team. After a tough 2017 Barry-John was keen to make the most of his experience from the year before.

The season started great with a 2nd place in Mondello park. In the second round Barry-John got his first pole position in the class in Bischopscourt. Unfortunately the steering broke and what was sure to be a strong weekend turned into a frustrating weekend and what could of been. As the season continued another 2nd place and constant top 6 finishes meant that Barry-John would finish 4th overall in the championship. Overall a good season but lady luck was not on the Raheny Drivers side all year. Barry-Johns hopes to be back on the grid in 2019 and plans to make another step forward and battle for the title. Big thanks must go to all our sponsors.

The former Abarth Champion had taken a two year sabbatical from racing due to business commitments but had been working with the Kellett Motorsport team during that time so he has not been far away from the track. Barry-John will be supported by his super loyal sponsors JH Autobody, Dunshaughlin Motor Company, Dunshaughlin Motors, Carzone.ie, Kellett Motors and Speedy Tyres Artane.

In 2014 Barry-John had decided to take a step back from racing but was then convinced to race in the Future Classics series in Mondello. He raced 2 Fiat Punto 1400’s threw out the season run by his ever supporting team Kellett Motorsport. He became the first ever winner of the Future Classics Sean Kelly Memorial Trophy which was quite an honer and he really enjoyed his season with a string of podiums all season long.

He did a number of Ford Fiesta Races with medioka success and unfortunately quite a bit of damage. He also raced in Silverstone on the Grand Prix Circuit in his Fiat Punto Abarth and showed real pace. He raced with the British Alfa Romeo Championship again Ran by Kellett Motorsport and as always was grateful to his ever reliable Sponsors. In 2012 Barry-John returned to the Dunlop Abarth Championship as champion. Driving with the number 1 plate was a real dream come true. He was up against tuff competition though with Alister Kellett returning and the Kellett Motorsport team running 4 Abarths. It was a very enjoyable season and Barry-John finished 3rd in the championship with his only win coming at the Leinster trophy race in Mondello Park, but he had a fantastic two podiums at the new and very fast Bishopscourt track, in fact he visited the podium 7 times threw out the season but disappointingly missed the Phoenix Park motor races due to a hand injury playing Rugby. He did get to commentate at the event though in front of a massive crowd of over 50,000 over the weekend, so that was very enjoyable. All in all a fantastic seasons racing for both him and the team. The team had drivers in 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 8th in the championship.

Barry-John’s 2012 Sponsors were Tom Kane Recovery, Europcar, Speedy Tyres Artane, JH Autobody, Dunshaughlin Motor Comapany and Carsireland.ie

For the 2011 season Barry-John switched teams, he moved from BT Racing to championship winning team Kellett Motorsport. This was a real good move for Barry-John as he felt he had the pace but just did not have the reliability with the car. As a warm up for the season ahead and a chance to race with his new team Barry-John did a Punto 1400 race in the Kellett Motorsport spare car and instantly got pole, it was his first time driving a Punto 1400 so a podium in the race brought a real good feeling for the season ahead.

The first round of the Dunlop Abarth Championship was in Mondello Park for Barry-John and his new team. A double win was the result and a better start could not of ever been dreamed of. He continued with 5 wins in a row. He eventually raped up the Championship in Kirkistown with a second place. He really dominated the season from Start to finish and was delighted to win his first ever racing championship. Especially in front of top drivers like Gordan Kellett, Noel Green, Gary Miller and John Denning.

In 2010 Barry-John returned to the Dunlop Abarth Championship with a fully rebuilt car and with BT Racing having a better insight to the Abarth he was full of confidence. The season started great with a second place in Kirkistown and after a race long battle for the win he was sure his problem’s from the previous season were behind him. After the first 6 races Barry-John was right in the championship hunt until a massive crash in Anglesea in Wales really put a stop to that. With over €9,000 worth of damage the team did a fantastic job to repair the car and with a new colour scheme they were hoping for better look, but over the next 4 races a hidden brake problem caused both Barry-John and the team a lot of heartache and trouble and with 3 dnf’s in a row that was Barry-John’s chance of salvaging anything from the season was over. By the Leinster Trophy race the problem was sorted and he was able to battle the front runners for podium’s but all in all a disappointing end to the season.

Barry-John had massive support this season from his sponsors Tom Kane Recovery, JH Autobody, Thrifty Car Rental, Speedy Tyres Artane, McHenry Car Sales, Artane Auto Centre and Cable technics.

After a very successful 2008 season Barry-John was tipped to move up to the Punto 1400 Championship but the 2008 Uno runner up decided to make the jump straight to the Dunlop Abarth championship the top Saloon car championship in the country. Barry-John signed for BT Racing a top team from Clane that had been running Punto 1400’s, Uno’s and rallycross cars for years and they were keen to move to the Abarth championship. Brendan Travers team owner who is well renowned for car set up was delighted to get Barry-John onboard, the deal was put together by Mondello legend Leo Nulty. Barry-John showed great pace but reliability was a problem. They had a number of engine issues throughout the season causing too many non finishes. With over 20 cars on the grid it’s a very tough championship as it is, never mind when you are having engine troubles. A fantastic race in Anglesea in Wales where Barry-John finished 5th and matched the pace of the leaders was the season highlight.

Barry-John was sponsored by Tom Kane Recovery, JH Autobody, Thrifty Car Rental, McHenry Car Sales and Functional Training Ireland.

McHenry Motorsport from Raheny had their best season yet in 2008 with Barry-John McHenry and Barry Hallion finishing 2nd and 4th respectfully in the Fiat Uno Championship. Barry-John in particular battled for the title with 8 podiums from 11 races. He also had his first win in the Championship in Kirkistown. He was right in the hunt for the title until the penultimate round  in Mondello where he was caught up in a 5 car accident that left him with no chance of the title. However it was a great year all round and both Barry-John and Barry Hallion had a trophy filled season.

Barry-john was sponsored by JH Autobody, Thrifty Car Rental, McHenry Car Sales, Fintek Web and Paul Kinane Financial Services.

In 2007 McHenry Motorsport were back in action bigger and better then ever. Running 3 Uno’s for Barry-John McHenry, Barry Hallion and Alan Quinn. Alan finished 2nd in the Championship with Barry-John 4th and Barry Hallion 6th. A fantastic season and a year where close racing was the order of the day. Barry-John seemed to be the 4th place king with six 4th places in a row before finally making the podium in Mondello Park. The team also travelled to Oultan Park in the UK where they got the trill of one of the best tracks in Europe.

The Team were sponsored by Paul Kinane Financial services, Thrifty Car Rental, JH Autobody,  Auto Glym and McHenry Car Sales ltd.

This season long term friends Barry-John McHenry and Barry Hallion decided to race in the Dunlop Fiat Uno Championship. They bought 2 cars and competed in the championship. They raced in Mondello Park in Kildare, Kirkistown in Northern Ireland, Anglesea in Wales and the Phoneix Park in Dublin. The two Raheny lads showed great pace but found reliability very hard task master. Maybe they were pushing their cars too hard but had too many Non Finishes to trouble the regular front runners. The highlight for Barry-John was being in 3rd place in the biggest race of the year the famous Phoneix Park motor races before out braking himself into the chicane and ending up in the trees with a wrecked car, Funnily enough that was also the low point of the year. A lot was learnt and the team will come back bigger and stronger next season with two totally rebuilt cars.

Big thanks must go to all the McHenry Motorsport team and all our sponsors, Paul Kinane Financial Services, Thrifty Car Rental, Auto Glym, McHenry Car Sales and JH Autobody.
